A Schools Renewables Development Officer is on hand to help local authorities in Scotland install renewable energy systems in their schools.
The Scottish Government has funded two SRDO posts in order to promote and support the increased uptake of sustainable energy measures in schools, specifically micro-renewables and any accompanying energy efficiency methods.
The SRDOs also work together with schools to promote the educational benefits of such projects through the learning and teaching strategies embodied in the Curriculum for Excellence (external site).
SRDOs work with local authorities and schools to identify opportunities to install renewable technologies and to help them access funding sources.
The officers also work with schools to help increase their knowledge and experience of renewable technologies.
Examples of projects funded include biomass boilers replacing oil or gas fired boilers, wind turbines, ground source heat pumps for under floor heating and solar thermal panels for heating hot water.
Local authorities and schools in South, Central and North East Scotland should contact the Energy Saving Trust on 0800 512 012 and ask to speak to the School Renewables Development Officer.
If you are based in the North West or the Highlands and Islands, please contact Community Energy Scotland (external site)
