The Energy Saving Trust has long recognised the importance of planning policies and development management procedures that positively encourage sustainable improvements and low carbon buildings. It has recently launched a new support pack for public sector planners, in conjunction with the Royal Town Planning Institute.
Sustainable Energy in the Built Environment: Best Practice for Scottish Planners is intended to help public sector planners to develop policies and make decisions that promote sustainable energy use and production at a domestic level. The resource aims to provide inspiration through case studies and signposts users to other useful resources.
Further case studies were also published in Practical help news issue 34.
Up-to-date information on current planning policy and consultations on sustainable energy can be found on our Scottish policy page. Planners in the public sector can also make use of the Energy Saving Trust’s free enquiries and presentation services; contact 0844 84 888 30 or practicalhelp@est.org.uk for more information.
