Energy Saving Scotland home renewables – information for installers

Approved renewables installers and products

Installers of renewables systems may choose to become accredited through the UK wide Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).

Those installers who are accredited can pass on the benefits to their customers. In order to take advantage of the Feed-in Tariff scheme or other available funding, customers must use an MCS accredited installer.

Please note that the Energy Saving Scotland home renewables grant scheme, which required use of accredited installers for householders to access grant funding, has now closed to new applicants. However existing approved applicants should still contract an accredited installer to meet eligibility criteria.

Installer training and accreditation

Information on training for renewables installers and how your company can become an accredited installer can be obtained from GemServ Limited by calling 0207 090 1082 or by emailing MCS@gemserv.com

Alternatively, visit the Microgeneration Certification Scheme website.

Finding products

A full list of products for micro hydro, micro wind, solar water heating, biomass heating and ground source heat pumps can be viewed on the Microgeneration Certification website

Wind installers guide

While not a substitute for a training programme, a wind installer's guide has been produced by the Energy Efficiency Best Practice Programme.

The guide aims to provide system designers and installers with sufficient information to ensure that small wind energy systems comply with current UK standards and with industry best practice.

Download your copy using the link below or call 0845 120 7799 to order a free printed copy.

Commissioning certificates for installations

Once installed, grant funded systems require an appropriate Commissioning Certificate.

Energy Saving Trust customers who have had a Energy Saving Scotland home renewables grant application approved must submit an Installation Commissioning Certificate in order to receive their funds.

The commissioning certificate should be completed by the accredited installer upon system commissioning and passed to the customer as soon as possible after installation completion.
