Benefits of taking part

Cavity wall insulation filling

Householders living in a Home Insulation Scheme area can benefit in many ways.

If you are a homeowner or a private landlord there are additional benefits available to you.

  • You could save money, as less fuel may be needed to heat your home. On average, money spent on insulation is recouped within two years.
  • We will make it easy - from providing advice and completing the Home Energy Check form, to installing the insulation. We will guide you through the whole process.
  • It is good value so you can expect lower costs compared with sourcing your cavity wall and loft insulation privately. Top-up loft insulation will be free of charge if you already have between 60mm to 160mm, irrespective of the size of your loft!
  • You will be eligible to apply for an interest free Energy Saving Scotland home loan.
  • Reassurance of quality and service, as the Home Insulation Scheme is local authority endorsed and Scottish Government funded.
  • You could be warmer and more comfortable, as insulation keeps the heat in. An uninsulated home can typically lose over half of its heat through its walls and roof.
  • You could be reducing CO2 emissions as a result of using less energy in your home.

Additional benefits for homeowners

It could make selling your home easier in the future. The Home Energy Report sent to you as part of the Home Insulation Scheme indicates the current energy rating of your property and advises how to make your property more energy efficient.

Acting upon the recommendations in the report will help you get a better rating on the Energy Performance Certificate part of a Home Report for your property.

Additional benefits for landlords

It could make renting your property easier. Improving the quality of your property through installing insulation could help you attract and retain tenants.

Installing insulation may help tenants live in greater comfort and warmth, reduce their fuel bills and save money.

Energy Assistance Package

If your responses on the Home Energy Check form indicate you may be able to get additional help from the Energy Assistance Package, then you will receive a call back from one of our qualified energy advisors from your local Energy Saving Scotland advice centre.

During the call the energy advisor will work out what you may be entitled to from the Energy Assistance Package. This could include a benefit entitlement check and whether you might qualify for the lowest cost energy rates.

Find out more about the Energy Assistance Package.

Next steps

To find out how the scheme could help you, you need to complete a Home Energy Check form. You can do this either online, by telephone, or with the Home Energy Assessor on your doorstep.
